Motion Controller, The New Era of Playing Game!

The new era of gaming is come!

Three and half years ago when Nintendo released its console, Nintendo Wii, which use Wiimote as controller, (a unique controller which detects movements in three dimensions), nobody thought it will be a trend for the following years.

But now, after they become a market leader, shattered sales records, they proof that motion controller is a creative idea. Both its rivals, Sony and Microsoft try to follow their success by released a motion controller too, Sony with PlayStation Move and Microsoft with Project Natal.

Sony's PlayStation Move

Sony uses a spherical light which is tracked by the camera in concert with internal sensors, plans to charge $100 for a package including Move, the PlayStation Eye Camera and one game. They claimed that PlayStation Move is more accurate than Wii remote, so it isn't just to play a casual games, but difficult games also.

Supported Games

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, Ape Escape and Echochrome 2 plus old games LittleBigPlanet, Flower and Resident Evil 5.

Future Planned Games, specifically made for the controller

High-def sports suite
Sports Champions, boxing game Dukes, Kung Fu game Slider, family party game Move Party and shooter The Shoot.

Microsoft's Project Natal

Just like Sony, Microsoft's project Natal for Xbox 360, uses a camera to track the movements, 3D Camera Technology for exactly, but without a controller.

Project Natal will detect the movements of the whole player's body not just the controller in the hands, so the player can play the games that's not just using hands movements but the whole body also.

How Do Barcodes and Barcode Scanners Work

I'm sure that all people know this gadget, except for they who live in a cave. We usually see it when we pay stuff at the supermarket's cashier.

Yup, I meant the barcode scanners. This time, I write about how do the barcodes and barcode scanners work.

The Usage of Barcodes

The barcodes are really useful when you run a busy store and you need to keep track all of things you sell, so your customers will always find the ones that they want to buy are in stock. Okay, if you said you don’t need the barcodes, you can write it down one by one what is your customers buy, then you will need more than an employee as cashier. In other case, maybe you run a grocery store or kind of a big store that has a thousands of items to sell, would you write it one by one? if you ask my opinion, I would rather to buy a barcode scanner, and a barcode label printer (if your items still do not have barcode labels from its factory) than write the items one by one or recruit a new employee.

How The Barcodes Represent The Numbers

A barcode is really a simple way to classify your items by give them each, a number or an identity. Why should use the barcodes? Why doesn’t use just decimal numbers, 0-9? Because it is more complicated for computer to read decimal numbers and it have more error risk (for example, a misprinted eight look like a three to computer, while six is look like nine if it is turned upside down). So here are the barcodes that represent numbers 0-9.

How Do Barcode Scanners Work

It really useless if we have the barcodes without gadget to read them, so that’s what a barcode scanner are made for.

These are the technologies of barcode scanner you may get in the market commonly:

Pen Scanner

This scanner shine red LED light onto black and white barcode stripes and then identify the pattern of reflected light with a string of photodiodes.

Laser Scanner

For a bigger store it is recommended to use this kind of scanner, basically laser scanners work the same way as pen-type scanners, except the light source that they used, they use the laser not LED.

Video Camera Scanner

These scanners use a video camera to capture the stripes of the barcode than the computer determine the pattern of black and white bars into a number. Video Camera Scanners is more accurate than Laser and Pen Scanners.

The other gadget that you may need is Barcode Printer Label, if your items still do not have barcode labels from its factory, you can use this gadget to print the barcode labels of your items before you display them.

Skinput, The Next "Skin" Touchscreen

Chris Harisson from Carnegie Mellon University and Dan Morris and Desney Tan from Microsoft's Redmond Research worked together for a gadget that is called Skinput.

What is Skinput? Hmmm, it more easier to explain the gadget than to believe it, since it looks like have to be found for a couple years later, in fact it seems ready to produce for the mass probably in next year. So Skinput is a gadget that turns your body surface into booth screen and input device or what is commonly called touchscreen.

Now with Skinput, you won't need your keyboard to type in your computer neither a joystick to play games in your console or even a remote to switch your television channels. You can done those jobs by your body's parts with Skinput.

The Demo Video of Skinput

Skinput beams a keyboard, menu, or other graphics onto user's palm and forearm through a pico projector embedded in an armband, then an acoustic detector also in armband will analyzes which part of the display is tapped by user.

Variations in bone density, mass, and size as well as filtering effects from soft tissues and joints mean different skin locations are acoustically distinct, Chris explain.
Their software matches the ultralow-frequency sound is made by user's tap to determine the specific skin locations which mean the specific "skin button" also.

So, who wanna have a touchscreen skin next?

Just wait until Skinput is throwed to the market, folks.
